Beverages of Oaxaca is a book which documents the preparation process of 87 traditional beverages in photographs and interviews.

For 13 months I traveled around the state of Oaxaca taking pictures and videos, conducting interviews and learning about this region.

The contents of the book display beverages from all over the state, including a variety of cacao, fruit and herbal based drinks, tepaches, atoles and alcohol.

The book highlights the natural and cultural riches of this region, taking us on a journey through many local communities throughout Oaxaca. The stories and portraits in this book exhibit the cultivation and preparation techniques of traditional beverages as well as ancient cultural practices.

Bebidas de Oaxaca takes an in depth look at the traditional beverages of the eight regions of Oaxaca. The images and text in this book offer a window into the communities and people who still create, offer, and enjoy this form of cultural expression. In the world of Mexican cuisine, little has been studied and recognized about the ancestral beverages featured in this book. Each chapter presents a glimpse into the world of the individual creators and the methods they used to produce their beverages. The recipes evoke to their memories, customs, and ways of life.
